Following Uncertainty
Team | RMIT Graduate Student | August - October 2024
Along with a team member, I designed and created a collage-style animation of overcoming grief in the style of Chiharu Shiota, highlighting 7 principles from Bruce Mau's Incomplete Manifesto for Growth. The photo assets were edited in Photoshop, and the animation was created in After Effects.
Memory Under The Skin, Chiharu Shiota (2023)
- Audience Analysis: For students and educators. The video frames design principles in an accessible, emotionally resonant way, providing teaching as a reflection tool.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner focused on illustration while I led motion design.
- Concept Development: Defined a narrative arc following the emotional journey of a main character.
- Design Adaptability: Translated conceptual art into a structured, time-based medium while retaining the essence of Chiharu Shiota’s immersive installations.
- Result: Final animation successfully communicated 7 distinct design principles in under 45 seconds, making complex design philosophy accessible to a general audience.

The narrative arc follows the emotional journey of our main character. I edited a recording of Symphony No. 6 in B Minor by Tchaikovsky to follow this narrative arc.
After establishing the overall arc and theme for our video, we created a storyboard to depict how we envisioned the final result of our animation. My partner drew the storyboard while I created the script.
